Class Descriptions:
Kindergarten-1st Grade
The “Elementary Skills” class is focused on appropriate social skills and supplementary activities. The lessons are fun, hands-on activities that revolve around social studies and science themes. For example, this past school year, they worked together as a class to create several recipes, experienced different historical time periods through play and music, and practiced basic academic skills like reading, writing, and math. Our teachers are very nurturing, tons of fun, and make sure that each class is full of enrichment.
2nd-5th Grades
The elementary program at COR is purely supplemental, however we make sure each class is packed full of learning and academic support for home studies. Teachers put together their own lessons based on their teaching style and promote learning through hands-on activities and games.
HISTORY/BIBLE will be using Story of the World, Volume 1: Ancient Times as a guide. Students will explore early civilizations, important historical events, geography, and Biblical connections through engaging stories, discussion, map work, memory verses, and hands-on projects.
In addition to studying ancient history, students will gain exposure to key elements of United States history and geography, helping them develop a broader understanding of the world and their place in it. Classes will incorporate creative activities, STEM challenges, notebooking, timeline work, and interactive projects designed to bring history to life.
Throughout the year, students will build a personal History Portfolio showcasing their work, maps, timelines, memory work, project pages, and historical discoveries.
Required Supplies: 1-inch binder, 50 page protectors
(Parents may also be asked to provide or contribute toward additional supplies for occasional special projects throughout the year.)
MATH uses a game style class that allows each student to work at their own level. It is a fast paced and super fun class.
LANGUAGE ARTS focuses on basic writing and grammar skills and then puts those into practice with activities like letter writing and basic research projects.
SCIENCE will use fun experiments and projects to gain a deeper understanding of God’s incredible creation.
Middle School
These classes are academically focused and cover all the material required for full credit in the subject. The students attend each class once per week and complete the required work at home. We use Google Classroom to keep track of assignments and grades.
LITERATURE focuses on reading, discussing, and writing about great books and the ideas they inspire. Weekly homework will consist of comprehension and critical-thinking questions, as well as periodic grammar and writing exercises. Students will begin composition with five-sentence paragraphs and work toward essay writing.
The tentative reading list includes Shiloh, On My Honor, Sign of the Beaver, and The Hiding Place (subject to revision). The teacher will provide all books required for this class.
WORLD HISTORY highlights the history of the world through a biblical lens, from ancient times to the Victorian Era. Students will experience art through the ages and learn research skills along the way. Students will complete one research project per semester.
Each student will need one copy of the Student Explorer, Year One. Please bring it to class on the first day, Tuesday, August 18.
Recommended but not required: one copy of the timeline book per family.
STEM/MATH includes awesome, hands-on projects that will reinforce and deepen students’ understanding of the foundational math skills taught in virtually all middle school curricula.
ART will focus on creating art works in the styles of famous (and not so famous) artists throughout history. Students will build skills and techniques with paint, watercolor, pen & ink, paper collage and fiber arts. The class tuition includes a supply fee that covers all the art supplies needed, which will be purchased by the teacher.
GENERAL SCIENCE will be a tour of several major fields of science including: physical science, chemistry, cell biology and microbiology, ecology, geology, and astronomy. Students will be introduced to several fascinating areas of scientific study, and explore each with excitement and wonder in God’s incredible creation.
Students are not required to purchase text books, however if you are interested in diving deeper at home, here are a couple of resources: Conceptual Physical Science (by Hewitt, Suchocki, and Hewitt) and Life Science (by McDougal Littell)
MENTORING is a short time built into our weekly schedule where students meet together for community building and fellowship, prayer, and spiritual discussions.

These skills help prepare students for future academic and professional writing.
Curriculum will be provided in Google Classroom – no purchases necessary!
PHYSICAL SCIENCE will be a conceptual physics class that focuses on fundamental concepts of matter, atoms, energy, forces, properties of substances, motion, magnetism, and electricity. The class will be divided into lecture, discussion, and hands-on experimentation to help promote retention and understanding of material.
Students will need a copy of Novare Physical Science textbook. You may purchase a new one or ask a recently graduated senior if they have one you could purchase used. Students are expect to bring their textbook to class each Thursday (beginning August 13!)
